Scottish Widows Care

As well as financial peace of mind, our Scottish Widows Protect policies also offer a range of support services.

We work with RedArc, an independent nurse advice service, to give the life assured and their family the support and practical help they may need through any difficult and traumatic time in their lives.

By answering their questions or addressing any fears they have, RedArc can help them to cope by giving the emotional support they need to help make a difference to their wellbeing.

Care services are included with all Scottish Widows Protect policies at no added cost. The services can be used from the day the plan starts and you don’t have to make a claim to use them.

What are the services?

RedArc has a team of Personal Nurse Advisers who are all highly experienced and qualified with a wide range of specialised and general medical knowledge. Their services include support for situations such as:

  • Serious illness
  • Bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Disability
  • Support on discharge from hospital – helping you recover

The Personal Nurse Adviser can also provide, where appropriate:

  • A face to face second medical opinion from UK-based specialists, or
  • A course of therapy i.e. counselling, complementary or occupational therapy

A dedicated telephone-based Personal Nurse Adviser will help you with your specific needs and situation. The same Nurse Adviser will remain with you for as long and as often as needed.

How you can use our Care service

At claim stage – if the life assured has been diagnosed with a critical illness, or they died, our claims team will explain how the client or their family can contact RedArc. All they have to do is make one call and RedArc will do the rest. For a critical illness claim please call us on 0800 056 5589. If someone has died please call 0800 056 5590.

During a traumatic event – if the life assured or someone in their family needs help, advice or support because of a traumatic event, they just need to call our customer support team and explain that they want a referral. Our team will ask a little more about the reason for their call and put them in touch with RedArc.

The services can be used from the day the plan starts and are available to the person covered and their immediate family.

Scottish Widows Protect offers RedArc services as part of your policy, they are not part of our contractual agreement with you. This service can be amended, replaced or withdrawn at any time.
